The
"Hottys" curved sash windows look out onto Allendale market
square where there are good shopping facilities including - Post
Office, Co-op, Butchers, shop, pharmacy, four pubs of which each
provide good food.
Allendale
Town was recorded in 1842 to be the centre of Great Britain. The
Latitude and Longitude readings of the sundial on St Cuthbert's
Church Tower at midday Greenwich Mean Time are said to substantiate
this claim.
If you are lucky to be staying in Allendale on New Years Eve, you
will experience the famous Northern spectacle of the Allendale Tar
Barl procession. This annual event involves "guisers"
carrying blazing tar barrels on their heads to a midnight bonfire
in the middle of the village.
